The Mouse Experimentation and Germ-Free Core Facility (MEF/GFC)

Overview of Services

The Mouse Experimentation and Germ-Free Core Facility (MEF/GFC) provides support to experiments that use mouse models to elucidate the mechanisms of normal physiology and disease processes, and to develop and test novel agents and therapies to treat diseases. The MEF/GCF provides a centralized facililty for breeding, genotyping, maintaining colonies, conducting animal experiments, collecting tissues, analyzing experimental results, and training personnel in proper procedures for conducting animal experiments. The Core also hosts a germ-free mouse facility that works with PI's to produce, distribute, and conduct experiments in germ-free and gnotobiotic mouse models.  The MEF/GCF offers expertise with genetic, induced, or orthotopic models of disease and coordinates with other USC Cores with respect tissue processing and preparation for various types of analyses.
